Journalism Safety Research Network (JSRN)

The Journalism Safety Research Network was launched at UNESCO’s research conference on the safety of journalists during the World Press Freedom Day celebrations in Helsinki in 2016. Its aim is to advance academic research communication and collaboration in the area of journalism safety. The JSRN is hosted by the Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM), an interdisciplinary research centre with global outreach on issues of media freedom, independence and plurality, based in the Centre for Freedom of the Media in the Department of Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield. Six regional working groups were established in 2022. They provide a space for members to connect and network.

Members

The JSRN is a global network of over 250 researchers who work at universities, research centres and civil society organisations in over 50 countries including Australia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Nigeria, Norway, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. It brings together researchers with a common interest, concern or engagement with the safety of journalists, the issue of impunity and the promotion of free and independent journalism.
