news production in conflict post-conflict reporting war and peace reporting transitional journalism fake balance and objectivity

My research focuses on news production in conflict and relates to working conditions as an influence on news production and the safety of journalists. I look at the process of news production before news comes into being and how journalists exercise routines, values, influences and safety conditions in their daily work. The safety of journalists is a determining condition for news production, hence one of the most important areas of my work.

Definition of journalists' safety

Safety is the most important influencing factor along with professionalisation of journalists in determining perceptions of the role by journalists themselves. It is also the impeding factor to values of independence, neutrality, observation and other important aspects of doing journalism. It can be seen from different domains and sub-domains such as physical, psychological, digital, financial, legal, gender etc. One of the important aspects is the legal aspect of the safety of journalists respectively, the SLAPP increase in the last decade, which aims to cripple journalism as an institution.

Future plans for research on journalists' safety
