Displaced journalists exiled journalists anti-press violence predictors of threats occupational violence media capture

She is the principal investigator (PI) of Worlds of Journalism Bolivia. She partakes in the national consortium conducting the third wave of Worlds of Journalism Mexico (as a Mexico City co-coordinator). She also co-led the second wave of WJS in Mexico. Based on the previous wave's dataset, she co-published predictors of recurring and non-recurrent threats to Mexican journalists; predictors of engaging in censorship and self-censorship as a protective measure; other measures journalists take to stay safe; and faces of work precarity. More recently, she has published on journalists' working conditions and perceptions of risk when covering the Covid pandemic, the multiple facets of occupational violence in journalism, and resettlement conditions of forcibly displaced journalists who relocated to Mexico City due to imminent risk. At the same time, she explores the different faces and levels of media capture that affect journalists.

Future plans for research on journalists' safety

I am finishing manuscripts: 1) on Mexica journalists' well-being, 2)typifying occupational violence as applied to journalism, and 3)on different types of violence experienced by Mexican photojournalists. In the short term, I would start to work (more) on the experiences of journalists living in displacement, asylum, and exile; and also on the experiences of stringers.
